Un-clutter your inbox with “unsubscribe”

the power of unsubscribe button
Spam filters are the first line of defense in keeping your inbox free from unwanted emails, but they can’t too all the heavy lifting. Since most unwanted emails come from promotional sources (like coupon deals, hotel discounts, social media notifications and sales from places you’ve shopped online) the easiest way to reduce the email madness is to click the “unsubscribe” button underneath the emails you don’t want. All commercial emails have to include this opting-out option, and its a quick way to reduce the junk you’ll receive in the future.

How to keep bananas ripe, longer

banana tape protection
Bananas only stay fresh for a brief period of time. Fortunately, you can extend their freshness quickly, easily and cheaply. Just wrap some plastic wrap, tinfoil or tape  around the top of the bunch. This will slow the ripening process, so you have longer to enjoy your bananas.

How to correctly place a toilet seat cover

how to place toilet seat cover
You’re probably well acquainted with those flimsy paper toilet seat covers. But you’re probably not acquainted with the proper way to use them: Most public toilet seats are “U” shaped with an exposed rim in the front. You’re supposed to place the toilet seat cover with its flap toward the front of the toilet. That way the flap goes in the toilet to block splashing—and keep the germs and bacteria in the bowl where they belong.

Avoid bad tastes by plugging your nose

we cannot taste food when our nose is plugged
Most of what we recognize as taste actually comes from our sense of smell. It’s actually the odor molecules from food provide us with most of our taste sensation. So if you have kids who think their liquid medicine tastes gross, have them plug their nose as they take it. Or if you’re ever in a situation where you have to eat or drink something unpleasant, plug your nose before you put it in your mouth. Doing that will keep them—and you—from tasting something you’d rather not taste.

Cutting clean sheets from a large spool of paper

cutting big spools of paper
Avoid sloppy cuts and ripping, when cutting from a large paper spool, by keeping the spool upright and starting your cut a couple inches from the edge of the paper. Continue to slice all the way down to the floor. The uncut section will support the paper so it doesn’t fall down and tear, and help create the tension needed for a clean cut. When you’ve sliced all the way to the ground, go ahead and snip the top portion.

Smart shower storage

extra tension rod for bathrooms

Tension rods are a practical tool that can be used to create storage options in a smaller bathroom space. Have more toiletries than shower shelves? Install a tension rod on the back wall of your shower and hang shower caddies from it to house your shampoos, gels and conditioners. Need more towel drying territory? Install a tension rod outside of your shower curtain, and voila—an extra long towel rack.

Mismatched battery hack

Battery Aluminium foil
Find yourself in a pinch, with batteries that are smaller than the ones your electronic requires? Put the batteries you have into your device then roll a small piece of aluminum foil into a ball that fits the extra space in your device’s battery area. Put this foil ball on the negative side of the battery. This should help connect your battery to the conductor, so your device can work.
